For the Woman Who’s Scared And Still Wondering If Sobriety Is Worth It

If you’re reading this with shaky hands, a lump in your throat, and a sense that maybe, just maybe, you’ve made a huge mistake by deciding to stop drinking... I want you to take a deep breath and know this: You are not alone.

I wrote this post today for the woman who’s in the early stages of her alcohol-free journey, the one who’s questioning everything. The one who’s wondering, Can I really do this?

I’ve been there.

When I stopped drinking in March 2020, I didn’t know how long it would last. I didn’t make any grand declarations. If you had asked me back then if this was “forever,” I probably would have laughed nervously and said, “I doubt it.”

Why? Because I was scared.
Scared of what other people would say.
Scared of what my social life would look like.
Scared that life without alcohol meant a lifetime of boredom, loneliness, and white-knuckling it through every single weekend.

And honestly? I thought claiming the label “alcoholic” was a fate worse than death. (I know, I know… dramatic much? Newsflash: ICYMI You don’t need to use any labels you don’t want to!)

But what I wish someone had told me back then, what I now get to tell you, is this:
